Culture Minister Ana de Hollanda, announced the opening of the Paraty International Literary Festival in Rio de Janeiro, a program of support for translation and publication of Brazilian authors abroad. By 2020, the government promises to invest $ 8 million US dollars to promote Brazilian literature in the international publishing market. Only then will the world be able to recognize the value of Brazilian literature" the minister highlighted, saying that when travelling abroad, mainly to Europe, has seen the "enthusiasm" with Brazil and interest in learning more about the national culture. "We're just meeting a demand that already exists."

The money will be available every year in increasing amounts, with 640,000 US dollars this year, 700,000 US dollars in 2012 and 2013 to reach US 900,000 in 2020, the totalling 7.7 million US dollars. The National Library Foundation, under the Ministry of Culture, will award amounts of $ 2,000 to $ 8,000 per work. The reprints of works already translated for at least three years will receive between US$ 500 and US$ 4000 for selected work.

The proposals will be reviewed at the end of each quarter and after that the announcement of the selected works will be made within 30 days. For the 2011/2012 announcement, the works must be published until August 2013.
